Monday Miles & Leadership – Trust the Training

Share this storyShare on LinkedIn ↗

This weekend I’ll be running a half marathon.

If you’ve ever trained for a race, you know the feeling the week leading up to it.

You start asking yourself questions:

Did I run enough miles?
Did I miss too many days?
Did I prepare well enough?

But by race week, the truth is simple.

The work is already done.

The miles were run in the dark mornings.
The discipline happened on the days motivation was low.
The endurance was built one run at a time.

Race day doesn’t create your ability.

It reveals your preparation.

Leadership works the same way.

When a big presentation, tough conversation, or important decision shows up, you don’t magically become ready in that moment.

You rely on the preparation that happened beforehand.

The calls you made.
The relationships you built.
The habits you developed.

Running has taught me something I’ve come to believe deeply:

Confidence doesn’t come from motivation.

It comes from preparation.

So this week isn’t about cramming more miles.

It’s about trusting the training.

And trusting that consistent work compounds.

Next Monday I’ll share how the race goes.

Until then — keep putting in the miles.
