Built for the Long Run
Built for the Long Run is the title track and heart of the album.
The inspiration came from something running has taught me over and over again: the things that matter most are rarely built quickly.
You don’t become a runner because of one great run. You become one through the early mornings, the miles nobody sees, the workouts that don’t go as planned, and the decision to keep showing up anyway.
Life works much the same way.
Careers aren’t built with one promotion. Leadership isn’t defined by one important decision. Relationships aren’t strengthened by one conversation. And becoming the person we want to be doesn’t happen because of one breakthrough moment.
It’s the accumulation of small choices made consistently over time.
That’s what Built for the Long Run is about.
There will always be shortcuts. There will always be easier roads. And there will be seasons when the progress we’re making is difficult to see. Runners experience it during training when weeks of work can seem to produce very little—until suddenly the pace that once felt impossible becomes manageable.
We experience the same thing in life.
Sometimes growth is happening long before we can see the results.
The song’s central idea—“One mile, one day, one choice at a time”—captures that philosophy. You don’t have to conquer the entire marathon today. You don’t have to solve every problem in your career, your relationships, or your life today.
You just have to make the next good choice.
For runners, that might mean taking the next step when your legs are telling you to stop.
For a leader, it might mean having the conversation you’ve been avoiding.
For a parent or spouse, it might mean being present when you’re exhausted.
For anyone pursuing something meaningful, it might simply mean showing up again tomorrow.
That’s why this song became the title track of the album—and why Built for the Long Run became more than a phrase for me.
It’s a reminder that we’re not defined by a single mile, a single race, a single success, or a single failure.
We’re shaped by what we choose to do next.
One mile. One day. One choice at a time.
Because the finish line was never the goal.
Becoming was.

BUILT FOR THE LONG RUN
Bradley Miller
[Verse 1]
They see the miles
But they don't see the mornings
The alarm clock battles
Or the nights spent planning
They see the finish lines
The medals and the praise
But they don't see the thousands
Of choices made each day
The road keeps teaching lessons
If you're willing to learn
And every mile reminds you
That nothing's simply earned
[Pre-Chorus]
Success ain't built overnight
It's built one step at a time
[Chorus]
I'm built for the long run
Built for the climb
One mile, one day
One choice at a time
Through the highs and lows
Through the storms I've come through
I'm built for the long run
And so are you
Built for the long run
Built for the fight
Keep moving forward
One step at a time
I wasn't made for quick wins
I was made to become
Built for the long run
[Verse 2]
Relationships matter
Conversations count
The strongest bridges are built
Before they're needed out
The same is true in business
The same is true in life
Show up long enough
And eventually things go right
I've seen roads through Indiana
Kentucky and beyond
Miles away from home
Still carrying my purpose on
[Pre-Chorus]
Every setback
Every scar
Helped build the person that you are
[Chorus]
I'm built for the long run
Built for the climb
One mile, one day
One choice at a time
Through the highs and lows
Through the storms I've come through
I'm built for the long run
And so are you
Built for the long run
Built for the fight
Keep moving forward
One step at a time
I wasn't made for quick wins
I was made to become
Built for the long run
[Bridge]
When nobody's cheering
When nobody sees
That's where character is forged
That's where greatness begins
The miles taught patience
The road taught grace
The struggle taught gratitude
And faith through every race
Every Monday
A new lesson to share
For anyone still chasing
The person waiting out there
[Final Chorus]
We're built for the long run
Built for the climb
One mile, one day
One choice at a time
Through the highs and lows
Through the storms we go through
We're built for the long run
And so are you
Built for the long run
Built for the fight
Keep moving forward
One step at a time
We weren't made for quick wins
We were made to become
Built for the long run
[Outro]
The finish line was never the goal...
Becoming was.
