Running has taught me that not every mile serves the same purpose.
Some miles build speed.
Some build endurance.
And some are simply recovery miles.
Life works the same way.
Over the last several years, I’ve experienced different seasons.
Seasons of growth.
Seasons of challenge.
Seasons of leadership.
Seasons of transition.
There was a season of public service as Mayor.
A season of rebuilding and strengthening relationships.
A season of focusing more intentionally on being a husband and father.
And through it all, the miles kept teaching lessons.
One thing I’ve learned is this:
Not every season is meant for sprinting.
Some seasons are for planting.
Some are for serving.
Some are for healing.
Some are for preparing for what’s next.
The challenge is that we often compare our current season to someone else’s.
But comparison ignores context.
The right pace depends on the season you’re in.
Running has taught me to respect the season.
Leadership has taught me to embrace it.
Because growth doesn’t always look like acceleration.
Sometimes growth looks like patience.
And sometimes the season you’re in is preparing you for the one ahead.
Keep putting in the miles.
Your season won’t last forever.
