The week before last my wife and I went on a cruise.
No kids.
No schedule.
Just space.
And I needed it more than I wanted to admit.
Most of us don’t have a work problem.
We have a recovery problem.
We stay busy.
We stay moving.
We stay “on.”
And then wonder why:
* Our patience is shorter
* Our focus drifts
* Our energy isn’t there
Since December, this was my second cruise.
We’ve already got another one booked for the family in August.
Not because we’re trying to get away.
Because we refuse to run ourselves into the ground.
Even on the ship, I got a few miles in.
No pace.
No pressure.
Just movement.
And it reminded me of something simple:
You can’t perform at a high level if you never step away.
Running exposes it.
Leadership magnifies it.
If you don’t recharge, you don’t maintain.
You decline.
Slowly at first.
Then all at once.
Stepping away isn’t weakness.
It’s discipline.
Because this isn’t about one race.
It’s about being able to keep running for the long run.
